0:00three pieces of AI news to get your week 0:01started number one comes from the world 0:04of llm driven coding we have now seen 0:08enough development in this space that I 0:09think we can reliably classify the llm 0:13driven coding applications into two 0:15categories category one is for people 0:18who are just getting started en coding 0:20and who probably are depending on the 0:23llm to help them figure out what to do 0:26next bolt fits in there uh lovable fits 0:30in there repet fits in there these are 0:33all browser-based 0:35applications number two is an actual 0:39development environment that you 0:40download and install on your local 0:42machine and use an llm inside the 0:45development environment in order to help 0:47you code faster and that's for people 0:49generally who know a little bit more 0:51about coding cursor is a great example 0:53there another great example is winds 0:56Surf and that's my piece of news so 0:58winds surf fundamentally has shifted 1:01these Stakes for llm driven coding by 1:05making it more agen toied they call this 1:07Cascade I played with it just yesterday 1:10and I'm able to put up a reasonable 1:13looking landing page in 10 minutes and 1:17part of how it does that is by being 1:19more proactive than most llm driven 1:22coding applications have been but that's 1:25not it that brings me to my second piece 1:26of news so cursor is worried about the 1:30market share and the chatter that wind 1:32surf has been able to Garner in the last 1:34couple of weeks and they were clearly 1:37worried enough about it that I think 1:38they rushed their release of their new 1:40agents and so cursor now has an 1:43agent-based 1:44flow that people are comparing to like a 1:47software intern where you can just tell 1:49it to do something and you can go off 1:51and you can enjoy a movie and come back 1:55and see what cursor has 1:57built to me like looking at it it looks 2:00a lot like cursor shipped something very 2:03quickly in order to stop the chatter 2:06around wind Surf and this continues to 2:08underline the arms race Dynamics amongst 2:11key players in the llm ecosystem so for 2:16large language models if you don't have 2:18attention you don't have anything you 2:20don't have oxygen you don't have 2:21momentum you don't have a chance to 2:23raise and so when you get into a 2:26position where you are neck and neck 2:27with another player and that player 2:29makes a strategic move you have got to 2:31make that same move relatively quickly 2:34or you lose perceived momentum and that 2:36can in turn translated into lost users 2:39lost Revenue Etc and so when winds surf 2:41shipped curser was put in a position 2:45where they had to ship agents very 2:47quickly in order to catch up now I will 2:50tell you to be honest I've played with 2:51both both wind Surf and cursor and I 2:53still think wind surf is sort of the 2:55best environment out there for right now 2:57I feel like it's the most flexible it's 2:59the the most proactive it's the most 3:01thoughtful and I and I know that's an 3:02odd thing to say about an llm but it 3:05does give me the impression that it's 3:07really being thoughtful across the code 3:09base and that's something that others 3:11have noticed as well okay so those are 3:13the first two pieces of news wind surf 3:15dropping which I know is not like super 3:17recent but I wanted to contextualize it 3:19within the sort of larger arms race and 3:21then cursor shipping agents which did 3:23happened very recently it was just over 3:25the 3:26weekend okay third piece of news is AWS 3:30funding anthropic for $4 billion now the 3:32money itself is not such a big deal 3:35certainly open AI has raked in vast 3:38amounts and this is just a drop in the 3:40bucket by 3:41comparison what's interesting from a 3:43strategic perspective is that this ties 3:45anthropic more deeply into Amazon's 3:48larger strategic agenda and it also 3:51gives us a chance to look at the 3:55partners that they are serving with this 3:58new AWS anthropic collaboration so we 4:01get some names all right first from the 4:04chips up fundamentally Amazon is not 4:07happy with the amount of money they are 4:09shoveling to Jensen hang and Nvidia 4:11right now and they have to in order to 4:14run their large language model driven 4:16cloud services so AWS Bedrock for 4:19example they would like it to be not on 4:23Nvidia chips and right now they are too 4:26dependent so they have spun up a project 4:29called onap porna which is designed to 4:32give them new Chips it's the uh trinium 4:35initiative I believe where it's focused 4:37really on sort of chips that enable you 4:38to train llms 4:40efficiently and 4:43critically part of the deal with 4:46anthropic is anthropic working with the 4:48Anapa team on the tranium chips so that 4:52the tranium chips become the preferred 4:54way to train clawed models that was part 4:57of the the deal that was struck 5:00and when you think about it that is a 5:03pretty significant commitment on 5:05anthropics part because it means that if 5:07Nvidia were to make a really significant 5:10innovation in chip production which 5:12historically they 5:13have well anthropic might have less 5:17flexibility than open Ai and Google to 5:19take advantage of 5:21that they're sort of locked in now the 5:25exact terms haven't been disclosed but 5:26they seem to be de facto locked in to to 5:30the AWS plans to displace Sid's chips 5:33and that's a fairly big betat for 5:35anthropic to make at the same time I 5:38think AWS has more flexibility yes 5:41anthropic is the preferred partner I'm 5:43sure there's paper to that effect 5:46but Amazon is just so much bigger than 5:48anthropic that if they needed to shift 5:50to having a different preferred partner 5:53because open AI hit artificial general 5:55intelligence first there will be a way 5:57for them to get out of that paper and do 5:59that that so I think that Amazon retains 6:01more strategic flexibility than 6:02anthropic in this 6:04relationship but anthropic had limited 6:06options to raise after open AI sucked a 6:09lot of the oxygen out I don't know if 6:10you noticed but at the end of the day 6:13after the open AI raise that was huge a 6:15couple of months back nobody's really 6:18raised in the major model maker space 6:21and so anthropic actually getting enough 6:24dollars on the table to keep rolling and 6:26keep training and getting a strategic 6:27partner for training there's probably 6:29credit for training and other kinds of 6:30things that are off the table in terms 6:32of cash they needed it they had to take 6:34the deal so that's my analysis of the 6:37AWS uh anthropic deal I think it's an 6:40important one I think it's something 6:42that's going to keep Claud in a position 6:44to continue competing with open AI which 6:46is good for the industry and good for 6:48all of us and I think finally it's 6:50interesting to see how far they've been 6:52able to come so we actually got to see 6:54some of their partners and that was in 6:56the press release because it often is uh 6:59and and it's really interesting they 7:01talked about partnering with Intuit they 7:03talked about partnering with uh fizer on 7:06drugs which I don't know what it is but 7:08like every single model maker is really 7:11into bragging about their Partnerships 7:12with big Pharma and then finally they 7:15talked about the European Parliament 7:16which I thought was really interesting 7:17because if you're working with a 7:19European Parliament it means you see a 7:21pathway to having your models be 7:24compliant and first class citizens in 7:26the EU which would be a big get because 7:29I know that that the EU has been 7:30somewhat more cautious about how to 7:33Greenlight these models versus the us 7:35there you go those are the three big 7:37pieces of news we have the whole cursor 7:39wind surf Dynamic we have the Strategic 7:41analysis of 7:42AWS and of 7:44anthropic and of course cursor dropping 7:48that agent just to try and get a leg up 7:50on wind surf you tell me do you think 7:52wind surf is
