IBM BPM 857 Mobile Portal Walkthrough

Key Points

  • IBM Business Process Manager v8.5.7 introduces a responsive portal that works on phones, tablets and desktops, showing a work dashboard with claimable tasks and configurable sidebars for profiles, dashboards, processes, mentions and links.
  • The video demonstrates how a user (Nina) can start a new onboarding process from her iPhone, use quick search to locate and claim a task, complete it, and see the task disappear from the filtered worklist.
  • Nina creates a shared saved search that filters tasks by keywords, assigns them to her team, adds useful columns (lead amount, lead viability), and pins it as her default landing view by starring and dragging it above the “Work” section.
  • Portal theming is centrally managed (affecting all users) and easily customized, with future videos promised on external activities, responsive coaches, case processes, and more.

0:00[Music] 0:17IBM Business Process Manager version 857 0:21introduces a new portal that supports 0:23phone, tablet, and desktop browsers. 0:26Here the portal is shown on an iPhone 6 0:30Plus. The work dashboard displays a list 0:33of tasks that the current user can claim 0:35and work on. Pressing the three bar icon 0:39reveals a sidebar that contains the 0:41current user's profile, a list of 0:43dashboards and saved searches, and a 0:45list of launchable processes and 0:47services. 0:51Pressing the options icon reveals a 0:54sidebar that contains a list of 0:56processes that the user is following, 0:59mentions that have been made by other 1:00BPM users, and web links that have been 1:03configured by an 1:12administrator. Nina is on an airplane 1:15waiting for gate departure. She can do 1:17some work on her phone. 1:20She needs to open an onboarding task for 1:22Jane Dean, a new hire in cloud analytics 1:26sales. Nina opens the left 1:29sidebar and starts an instance of the 1:32new sales position on boarding 1:37process. She can use the quick search 1:39feature to easily find the new task in 1:42the task list. 1:55She opens the 1:57task, claims 2:03it, types Jane Dean's name. 2:15clicks 2:19next and submits the 2:23request. When she returns to the 2:25worklist, the search filter is still 2:27active and she sees that the task is no 2:30longer there as expected because it's 2:32complete. So, she clears the 2:38filter and the remaining available tasks 2:41are now shown. 2:50Back in the office, Nina creates a saved 2:52search that her team can use to track 2:54sales lead tasks. She clicks create 2:58saved search. 3:00She leaves the claimed and available 3:02criterion in place and adds 3:06another search 3:09start or 3:14close. And now tasks that have the word 3:17start or close in them are shown in the 3:19task 3:20list. She also adds assign to 3:27team and types in the name of her team. 3:37She adds some useful columns as well. 3:39Assigned to 3:41team and two business data columns, lead 3:44amount and lead 3:49viability. She gives the search the name 3:55start and close sales. 4:03and she shares it with her 4:06team sales 4:15consultants. Nina would like to see this 4:17save search when she logs in. 4:20She does this by clicking the show 4:23details icon next to the save search 4:26name and clicks the 4:28star. This brings the save search above 4:31the show less 4:34separator. She drags a save search above 4:38work. And now after she logs back 4:46in the start and close sales save search 4:50is her landing 4:58page portal is highly configurable. This 5:02is the portal after changes were made to 5:03the BPM 5:05theme. Theme changes are easy to make. 5:09Note that changes to the theme apply to 5:11all BPM users. Theme changes are not 5:14saved on a per user 5:23basis. Look for more videos in the 5:26future covering many aspects of BPM 5:29version 5:30857.
