0:00Agentsic AI is creating a lot of buzz right now, and industries of all kinds are looking to leverage it to make real impacts to their operations and bottom line. 0:08But you're not gonna get very far if you can't trust the decisions, responses, and actions that are coming from your solution. 0:15And this is where explainable AI or XAI comes in. 0:21So what is explainable AI? 0:23What are some real world examples? 0:24How does it work? 0:25What are the benefits? 0:27Well, that's exactly what I'm here to talk about. 0:30We have a bit of a black box problem. 0:34As AI becomes more advanced, it's really a challenge to comprehend and understand everything that the algorithms are doing and how it came to those decisions. 0:44Explainable AI helps us to essentially break that black box 0:50part so humans like you and I can understand what is happening inside of it and how the AI algorithm arrived at a specific result. 0:58Before getting more into the weeds of how it works, 1:01I really wanna highlight a few examples where XAI is actually making a difference in the real world opposed to just being this concept, right? 1:09So in healthcare, XAI is helping doctors understand why an AI model recommends a certain diagnosis or a treatment, 1:16which in turn is gonna make it easier to trust and then act on those insights. 1:21And in finance, it's being used for credit risk assessments. 1:24So it shows clear reasoning behind decisions like loan approvals or rejections. 1:30And in autonomous vehicles, XAI is key to explaining the decision-making behind actions like braking or lane changes, 1:37which helps ensure much needed safety, which yeah, that's obviously really important, right? 1:42So these are just a few real ways that XAI has already transforming industries. 1:47It's making those AI decisions more transparent and actionable. 1:50So let's start talking about how this actually works. 1:54The setup of explainable AI techniques consists of three main methods. 1:59We have prediction accuracy, 2:03traceability and decision understanding. 2:09To better explain these, I have an analogy for you. 2:13So just imagine that you are a detective who likes to solve mysteries. 2:20Prediction accuracy is your ability to correctly identify the culprit. 2:26Each time that you identify the correct person for the crime, your prediction accuracy is going to increase, right? 2:32This is essentially a measurement of how often your conclusions align with the actual events. 2:38As you're solving your mysteries, you're doing things like finding clues, 2:42interviewing witnesses, and gathering all kinds of pieces of evidence to essentially build your case, right. 2:48So this is our traceability, which is following the data and decision-making process all the way back to our source. 2:57You'll eventually have to present your findings and when you do that, you need to explain not just who you believe is guilty, 3:04but why you believe that. 3:07You have to back it up with evidence and then explain how everything connects. 3:11This is our decision understanding where you're providing clear and understandable explanations about your findings. 3:18Now this is really similar to how these concepts work together in AI. 3:22So prediction accuracy measures the effectiveness of the AI's conclusions. 3:27Traceability ensures the AI decisions are based on valid data and processes. 3:33And decision understanding makes the AI's reasoning transparent and understandable, once again, to humans like me and you. 3:40Now that we know what explainable AI is, and we have an idea of how it works, let's talk about three key benefits. 3:48When your AI is explainable, you are going to build extra trust in what it's doing. 3:54This will help you to operationalize your AI with both trust and confidence. 3:59This really means the model evaluation process can be simplified, and you can bring your models to production. 4:07Another benefit is gonna be mitigating risk,and cost of model governance. 4:15With explainable and transparent models, it's going to be easier to manage regulatory, compliance, risk, and all that other good stuff. 4:24The final benefit that I want to mention today is speedier time to AI results. 4:31You'll be able to systematically monitor and manage models to optimize outcomes while more easily evaluating and providing the performance of those models. 4:41Now, explainable AI is very powerful, but obviously it's not without challenges. 4:46So your systems are going to get more and more complex. 4:51Now, scaling XAI or explainable to work across massive data sets and intricate algorithms is a huge hurdle. 4:58And there's this crazy challenge of creating frameworks that your less technical users can easily understand and use. 5:05But these challenges also open up exciting opportunities 5:11for innovation. 5:12And when we address these complexities, complexity goes down, we can design AI systems that are not only explainable, 5:19but also accessible for everyone, ensuring AI really works for all of us. 5:25Of course, explainable AI isn't just about building trust. 5:29It's also about ensuring ethical AI development. 5:32So as we move forward, we have to ask these questions like, are the decisions that we're making fair and unbiased? 5:41Are they going to align with the values of our organization or whatever it may be? 5:46And are our researchers, practitioners, policymakers, all those people involved in the process, are they collaborating properly and addressing ethical challenges? 5:56With ongoing research and teamwork, 5:59we really have the potential to not only revolutionize industries, but also improve lives and create a more transparent and trustworthy future. 6:09We're already seeing the power and benefit of implementing agentic AI to help us and the tasks that they've been trained to do. 6:16But just imagine how much more you can do when both your technical people and your non-technical people 6:21can not only understand what's going on, but also have trust and confidence in those results and the decisions. 6:28That's exactly what explainable AI is. 6:31And to me, that's an absolute mic drop moment.
